Can anyone tell me how to set up the basics of a non-linear AM simulation in Designer. The help files are non-existent and our ANSOFT support expired.

Basically I reduced the circuit down to almost nothing, a source with AM on it and a resistive load. I did a 1-tone harmonic balance simulation and the spectral plot shows no modulation. So, and this is specific to this tool, how does one see the AM tones? Is it a 2-tone harmonic balance with the modulation as one of the tones? I sort of tried this and it didn’t seem happy using F2 as the modulation frequency.

(I need a non-linear analysis because I do wan’t a non-linear diode model in the final circuit.)

Back on support now …

The answer to the AM simulation problem in Designer is to use a 1-tone modulation envelope analysis. This is a hybrid simulation between harmonic balance and time domain analysis.
