Can somebody tell me what is the ANSI standard for lableing a detail view? Is it DETAIL A or VIEW A? Or are either acceptable?

Thanks in advance!

Not having the standard right in front of me, but I do have 20 years drafting and design behind me, I say that labeling does make a difference.

Views are different than details and SHOULD BE labeled as such. Views are an orthographic projection whereas a 'detail' is (usually) a magnification of a feature.

That is how I see it also but I have worked for several companies that although state ANSI compliance, have adopted in-house convention of using VIEW labels and not DETAIL labels. So I was interested in what the ANSI standard actually says and if there is leniency in the standard for labeling.

Thanks..........

In Y14.3m-1994, it is how MouseTrap has it. Details are enlarged, while a view is strictly a projection that has been moved out of alignment. They should be noted as such ans the details shall note the scale.
