Can anyone provide a date when ANSI went up on the MAWP of piping, vessels, etc.? A client is in trouble with the federalies and this date sure would help. Some that i've contacted indicate around 1978 others say 1988. HELP!

I seem to recall that the ASME Section VIII Div. 1 Code changed circa 1990 to up the allowables and lower the hydrostatic test pressure from 1.5 x MAWP to 1.3 x MAWP. If I was to hazard a guess, I am thinking that perhaps the change to which you refer occurred in the 80's?

SNORGY.

You need to state exactly which code you would like to know about and which materials your are interested in.

Date of contruction would also be very usefull as well as when the deign was done.

Your question does not have enough information for anyone to give you a decent answer.

A question properly stated is a problem half solved.

Always remember, free advice is worth exactly what you pay for it!

Listen to the good Colonel.

ASME VIII had major changes in 1968 (Div. 2), 1999 (Div. 1), and 2007 (Div. 2). Prior to that you’d have to go back to the ‘50’s. Div. 3 snuck in as well, but I suspect you are not dealing with Div. 3 vessels.
ASME B31.3 – I’m not an expert but I’m not aware of major allowable stress changes.
ASME B16.5 – Varies by material group and flange class. Some have increased some decreased, some changed both ways depending on edition. Lots of changes in the 2003 edition, some in the 2009. Significant changes from 1968 to 1977 edition as well.

Like the Colonel said, far more information is necessary to provide a good answer.
