Hi every specialist;

As you know CAESAR software doesn't include a special module for above ground pipelines. The Buried Pipe Modeler is intended for underground pipes, but some specialists used to use this Modeler for above ground pipeline (continuously supported by the soil) and they provide a 50mm as burial depth just to simulate the soil effect.

I applied same procedure to a 12" above ground pipeline, design pressure=80 bars, Design Temperature= 110°C. Soil is sand (Sahara area). Pipeline will be anchored at both ends.
After running the stress, I found that anchor loads at the both ends turns around 40 tones (400,000 Newton).
1) Don't you think that this force is too big for above ground pipelines?
2) Can you advice using your good sense and experience the range of anchor forces for conditions above.
I'm suspecting that there something wrong with my Caesar model, but I can't find.

Many thanks

That anchor load is not outside reasonable ranges, although 40 kN (90 kips) might be quite small for a large diameter pipeline.

Thank you BigInch;
The force is not 40KN but 400KN. So do you think that this value is reasonable?

Yes, I missed the extra zero when retyping it.

400 kN = 90,000 lbs force.

I'd say it might be reasonable for a 8" standard wall or maybe a 10" x 0.250" wall subject to normal yearly seasonal temperatures not exceeding 100F.

Thanks BigInch;

Are you used with Caesar software, because I've some questions?

Sorry, I don't use it. I have an in-head pipestress program running 24-7, also GPS. :)

I was going to recommend that you ask this question over on forum775: COADE, INC: Caeser II -- but I see you already found it: thread775-267016.
