Anchor Bolt question: NDS Table 11E

Table 11E lists the embedment depth in concrete as "6.0 and greater." If the embedment depth is less than 6" (e.g. 4"), do you reduce the design value (Z) listed in the table? If the answer is yes, what is the reduction and where is it specified in the NDS?

Yes. Recalculate the design value using your actual lm as noted in Table 11.3.1A. The bolt Z values in chapter 11 are calculated from this table. Anytime you deviate from the assumptions, such as embedment in concrete, you need to calculate your own value for Z. I find it best to first reproduce the value from the table closest to what want, and then modify those inputs to get what I want. This helps me make sure I understood what variable went where, so to speak. Once your spreadsheet or mathcad sheet is set-up, this is a pretty easy check.
