I'm looking for a passivation type for 304ss and 17-4PH per AMS 2700. According to my resources, the 304 ss get passivated by HNO3 (nitric acid). I have drawing document that is specifying AMS 2700 type 6 or 7, for both 304ss and 17-4PH. Can someone provide advise on what type? The part is for aerospace use.

SAE AMS2700 Type 6 means nitric acid at ambient temperature (70-90 F). Type 7 means nitric acid at medium temperature (120-150 F). Either are acceptable based on the drawing you have.

TVP,

thanks a lot for your help. You just made my day. I requested the AMS 2700 to review it, but buy the time they get it for me I'll be long gone on an airplane today.

Thanks again!
