I often have oportunities to design aluminum lifting frames/baskets. I typically deal with carbon steel designs and am looking for a general reference for aluminum designs.

I know that after welding aluminum its yield strength is reduced significantly along with other factors.

Can anyone recomend a general design guide for aluminium structural design for me to begin researching?

Thank you in advace.

I think there's an Aluminum Design Manual that covers pretty much all you need.

There are two Candian Codes

CSA S157 - Strength Design in Aluminum

and

CSA W59.2 - Welded Aluminum Construction

Is there an AISC standard (American)?

Jstephen already told you...

As JStephen said....

There is an Aluminum Design Manual. The 2010 version is out. It is produced by The Aluminum Association.

Here is a link...

Or you could call Alcoa and they will send you one too.

Mike...I used to get the individual booklets for free (same info as in the ADM, just pieces and parts), but haven't seen any of those in years. I've had to buy the last three ADM's I have....and they ain't cheap.
