Hi everyone,

I am working on design of 45'x 45' wastewater tank cover and our O&M department is interested in Aluminum flat cover
(Aluminum deck supported with Aluminum built up hollow rectangular beeams). Is there any standard tables for aluminum hollow sections or any other design aid?

Thank you for your help

Consult The Aluminum Association publications and in particular, the Aluminum Design Manual.

Our wastewater group covered existing treatment tanks some years back with plastic or fiberglass skin over aluminum trusses. On another occasion, they covered a tank with a fiberglass skin over fiberglass trusses. In both instances they subcontracted that work out to companies that specialized in such coverings.

Check with the companies that make aluminum domes for water and oil tanks. Some of them also make rectangular covers of various kinds that might be suitable.

We do this all the time on potable and reclaimed tanks with aluminum standing seam roof and galvanized steel framing.
