Hi Guys

I'm trying to identify the US equivalent to the British Alu grade LM6 (Aluminum Alloy BS 1490:1988 LM6).

If anyone knows a quick answer.....please help! :)

This is for an automotive die casting.

(I've asked a supplier but they've yet to get back to me)

Thanks

J.

The US equivalent is alloy 413. The industry standard for high pressure die castings in the US is ASTM B 85. This standard lists 413.0 (UNS A04130) and A413.0 (UNS A14130), with the latter essentially being a lower iron version (1.3% maximum vs. 2.0% maximum). Keep in mind this is for the final as-cast product. The ingots are specified in ASTM B 179, with several versions of 413 being available, depending on the purity required (413.2, A413.1, and A413.2 in increasing levels of purity).
