Dear all,

Generally we use Copper Screens/Copper Tape in XLPE Insulated Cables to meet the fault current. Can it be replaced with Aluminium Screen?

By screening I mean round wire of Aluminium since for 1C Cables we already use Al Armour. So why not use it for screening purpose in 1C and 3C Cables aswell?

Thanks
Chris

The main construction international standards allowed use of aluminum shield.
IEC 60502-2 is not forbidding.
UL 1075 allows.
Since the price difference is negligible in order to offer possibility of increasing the short-circuit withstand current and avoid contact corrosion, I think a lot of manufacturers prefer copper instead of aluminum.
