I'm trying to create an alternate position drawing of a gas spring in SW01+. I have the gas spring modeled as a single part, with 2 configurations. The default config shows the gas spring in it's normaly extended position, and the other config shows the gas spring compressed.

When I try to instert the alternate position view (Insert>Drawing View>Alternate Position) I can't select the option because it is grayed-out. Do alternate position drawing views only only work for assemblies, or am I doing something wrong?

This is my first time using this option in SW. "The attempt and not the deed confounds us."

Try right mouse click on drawing view. Then in View Properties tab, click text box “Use named configuration:” Now click the name of your configuration. Bradley

What you have described only lets me use one or another configuration (I know how to do this). This is not what I am trying to accomplish. I wish to create an Alternate Position Drawing view. "The attempt and not the deed confounds us."

I have not figured that one out.
Good luck. Bradley

I think alternate position is only available with assembly drawings. It uses the move component tool to show a different position. BBJT CSWP

BBJT, that is what I was affraid of, and that's the conclusion I came to realize. I'll submit an enhancement request and see what developes.

Scott, I sent you that file, maybe there's a work around that not too hokey. [3eyes] "The attempt and not the deed confounds us."

Put your springs 1st configuration as the first part in a new assembly and then use the 'alternate postion' command.

Remember...

your going to have to use your feet."

Hit submit to fast.

Nobody says you have to have a second part in yuor assembly.

Good Luck.......
