Doesn't it depend on who it lands on? My understanding is that if it lands on the owner's son, the engineer himself is fine.

The result is exactly the reason why you never, but never, be Mr. Nice Guy for the owner for a few bucks at the expense of the public. The owner passed the bucks to the engineer, and the engineer passed the buck to the public. If true, obvious collusion and fraud, misfeasance, malfeasance, to name a few additional charges outside of the obvious, but what do I know.

This is pathetic to say the least. Where is the integrity?

So if these recommendations originated with the Profesional Engineers of Ontario , and this is a self regulating organisation , when will these recommendations be implemented and what is the reason for the on going delay???

The Algo Centre Mall is an interesting 'critter'... the drawings, including the structural drawings were prepared by an Architect' this includes the details... Architects are normally responsible for the building envelope... the shop drawings for the structural steel were reviewed by the Architect; there is no indication that the Hollow Core shop drawings were reviewed by anyone, but they were returned by the Architect...

The original engineer was at 'fault?' because he stipulated a design load that couldn't be fabricated for the system specified... The structure was reviewed by numerous consultants that are well aware of corrosion issues and that have fairly extensive parkade experience... The 'as specified' system did not work...

The PEO comes up with a multi page document that???

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police have charged one person in the June 2012 fatal collapse of a mall roof in Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police say 64-year-old Robert Wood, an engineer who inspected the Algo Centre Mall, faces two counts of criminal negligence causing death and one count of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

I don't know, but I can find out... Given the information that has emerged, I'm surprised the owner wasn't charged also. He knew about the problem, was advised by the Architect, and had the financial resources to remedy...
