I am in the midst of moving and my 2014 AL design manual is in my shipping pod, so I don't have access to it. I am working from a previous calculation and I have my fillet weld calculation as shown below. Can anyone tell me:
[ol 1]
[li]Why am I multiplying Ftuw by 0.85? I don't know if has something to do with it being a fillet weld. As you can see below, my effective throat is the leg length divided by sqrt(2) like I would do with steel. If the 0.85 has something to do with the fillet, I don't want to take a double hit on strength.[/li]
[li]Can I get any extra strength out of an AL fillet weld by considering the angle of the load to the longitudinal axis like I can with steel?[/li]
[li]Is the 0.85 required for a partial joint penetration weld?[/li]
[/ol]
