Hello Members,
I am developing a component where a extruded AL6061 T6 will be rolled in C shape.
I would like to know if there is any thumb rule regarding the tme delay between extrusion and bending to be followed to avoid cracking (due to natural age gardening).
Kindly let me know your responce.
regards,
Mukund

You are better off to roll the aluminum in a T4 or T5 condition before the age hardening takes place. If you are fully in the T6 condition, you'll need to use larger bend radii.

Thanks Ron for your responce,
I am having a bending radius of close to 800 mm. is 1 m onth of time delay ok. Where can I get the characteristics of natural age hardeing for this alloy.

Mukund

mdm77...ask the producer for the aging schedule.
