I seem to remember that they stopped doing this...perhaps concern over lawsuits from competing software vendors and such. 1998 sounds about the right time when this occurred now that I think about it.
Are you looking for some particular type of software? There have been some threads here at Eng-Tips where questions about the various structural analysis programs have been discussed....do an Eng-Tips search as well.
