Last week I had to do an inspection of a column that had been damaged by a forklift truck. To my surprise the columns was a HSS12x12x1/4 (I measured the thickness with a cheap Chinese ultrasonic thickness gauge). I say to my surprise because I don't think I would ever use a HSS12x12 that is that thin. In fact, I tend to stay away from sections that are noted with a "c" next to them (c= shape is slender for compression with Fy=46ksi).

As I don't have much experience with these sections, does the AISC make take the appropriate reductions in these column tables to account for the fact that some members of this section are slender?

short answer is yes, they flag them as slender just as a warning but the strength in the table includes the effect of increasing Kl/r through elastic and post-elastic buckling. A quick hand check or enercalc you can verify for yourself.
