Hi ,

i am designing a BRBF for tilt up structure and i have a question for the seismic load combination including overstrength factor, i did the design including Rho only (1.3) for the braces and when it comes to beams and columns i used the maximum capacity of the braces using those questions (βωRyPysc in compression) and ( ωRyPysc in tension). However in the AISC 341-B.2 it says

do i need to include the overstrength factor in my calculation instead of the Rho factor i am just confused

Thanks

It says use overstrength, but overstrength need not be greater than the capacity limited force based on the capacity of the brace. You can technically use either - but if you have the capacity limited BRB force, you can limit it to that value.
