Are tapered members addresed in the 2005 steel manual. In the ASD(green book) it is in Appendix F and in the LRFD(silver book) it is in Appendix F.F3.

Tapered Member Design Guide: This publication will present
a comprehensive approach to the design of frames composed
of web-tapered members within the context of the 2005
AISC Specification for Structural Steel Buildings. The guide
is complete and will be available from AISC later this year
as Design Guide No. 25, Frame Design Using Web-Tapered
Members.
