On p. 10-158, under "Unstiffened Seated Connections to HSS", second paragraph, it reads:
"..The minimum HSS thicknesses are established based on the weld strength. If the HSS thickness is less than the minimum value, the weld strength must be reduced proportionately."
I'm not sure what that means. Does it imply that if I selected a 5/16" weld from table 10-6, the thickness of the HSS to which the supporting angle is welded needs to be at least 5/16"? If not, where are the thicknesses "established"?
