I have an air compressure that is rated 35 scfm @ 175 psig. If i were to regulate it down to 20 psig how does this effect my scfm on the outlet of the regulator?
What would be the max scfm with the compressor being able to keep up?

Any Help would greatly be appreciated.

In addition to the feedback provided to you by "quark", here is an online calculator for isentropic compression that one can find useful when trying to find out what happens with the temperature outlet value and power input requirements for different compression ratio values:

 
If you continue to allow the compressor to compress up to 175 psig (the shut off switch turns it off until the pressure drops some amount then turns the comprssor on again) and then use a regulator to cut the pressure to 20 psig, the the scfm WILL NOT change.

IF you only allow the compressor to go to 20 psig (the compressor turns off at 25 psig and kicks on at 20 psig), the the scfm will INCREASE.
 
Most likely both the hp and flow rate will change.

For a constant hp, reducing compression ratios will increase the flow rate.

For a constant flow rate, reducing compression ratios will decrease hp used.

If you aren't doing anything to ensure one or the other then you'll get a mix of the two.
