Chinese systems from Alibaba or eBay... some smaller, used systems from Epilog, ULS, Trotec, etc. can be had for that price, but difficult to come by.

Methinks them fellers over on the discussion forums at PracticalMachinist and CNCZone jabber away about such gizmos. Maybe investigate over there. I'm sure with enough digging on the googlewebs you could find a hobbyist/maker site that discusses such things.
