Hi
I have a problem using shell elements with ansys work bench. I am running a 3D contact analysis using a solid model of bone and shell elements to represent a cortex (sandwich construction). As the problem involves contact (shells-solid) the contact regions must incorporate shell thickness when calculating penetration etc. I am new to Workbench but have some experience with classic ansys and I am well aware of the function keyopt(11)=1 to take into account the shell thickness but I am not aware if this option exists in workbench? The only apparent solution is exporting the FE model to ansys classic though easily achievable it would be quicker to make the change in workbench.

Thank you

Right click on the contact pair you want to do this and insert a command snippet. In the command snippet put in your APDL to change the keyopt(11). For example:

keyopt,cid,11,1

This will turn on the beam/shell thickness effect and allow you to work in Simulation.

Good luck,
Doug
