dear all,

We have these Cosasco Nipples, used for inhibitor injection o corrosion monitoring ( For in service welding of this fittings under Apendix B of API 1104, should the WPS be for Branch joints?

thanks in advance.

Octavio Chable.

Yes - this is a branch connection; it attaches to the main pipe header/line, it is many sizes smaller than the main line.

According to App B of API 1104, for in-service welding (B.2) procedure qualification for fillet weld in Sect. 5 should be applied.

Also specified in B.2.3 "The requirements in 5.7 for branch and sleeve welds are appropriate for in-service welding".
(Note: 5.7 specify qualification for fillet weld).

regards,
AR

The fitting/device that is shown on your link welds on very similarly to an O'let; there is supposed to be full-penetration of the root. This makes it a small-bore butt weld. And yes, a procedure or welder only qualified for big-bore buttwelds is not qualified to work on small-bore.
