Acceptable Hydrotest Pressure Drop

ASME does not permit qualification of the pressure test by monitoring the rate of pressure loss, at least in the current and past rules. The acceptance criteria is visual inspection of all joints for signs of leakage, during the pressure test. Another way of looking at it, there is no requirement for checking loss of pressure; the only requirement is that there is no leakage as determined by visual examination during the test.
We have commonly used .1 bar/h as maximum acceptable leakage rate. In sensitive systems (high pressure and toxic) we reduced this number to .01 bar/h. "we" in this case means my company. This is not regulated, as bvi says, so youshould talk to the customer, if there are any requirements by his side. The visual inspection of the piping is necessary, too, of course.

Our vessels have to hold prssure for 90 minutes , as noted above , visually inspecting for leaks to pass a test . Time is arbitrary , but we have had people pump up to a pressure and if it makes it , it must hold ! You are the customer , be unreasonable . What is the vendor's spec
