AC Solenoid Design

Can anyone suggest some good references (books, websites, etc.) for AC solenoid design. I am trying to improve chatter or hum of one of my products, and I cannot find any info on how to properly model and analyze the shading coil geometry and performance. Not a lot of people can make good AC solenoids, and those who can are not very willing to share their knowledge. I know there has to be a Bible of sorts on this topic, but I cannot locate it. Thanks in advance for all your help.
