I notice that when I put my AC inductive ampmeter around a wire carrying DC current that I get a reading.
Is there some mathematical comversion that can be done to get a ball park figure of DC current flowing thru a wire when using an AC inductive ampmeter?

That shouldn't happen unless the sensor uses a hall effect sensor or the DC is actually pulsed/ripple like an alternator or AC to DC power supply. Results you are seeing are not likely repeatable in other circumstances.
