Up until recently, I worked in upstream oil and gas as a seismic analyst - I was laid off early February. I have a BS Mathematics and I finished nearly two-thirds of an MA Math. Before college, I worked as a fire alarm technician/inspector; I had my Texas FAL and NICET Level 1 FAS.
As stated in the title, I start the MS FPE online program in March. Going part time, I should finish in two years. Obviously, I'm trying to get back into fire protection, so I've purchased the latest NFPA 72 and NFPA 101 Handbooks as well as an AutoCAD tutorial to complement my student version. I also purchased an FE study guide, but I don't expect to take that for awhile, especially since I'd have a lot of engineering background to make up.
How should I prioritize the requisite skills and knowledge going forward (in terms of codes, software, and so forth)? Is there anything essential that I'm missing?
