Hello people,

I'm a beginner in ABAQUS (learning since april) and I have a problem with contacts. I'm using surface-to-surface contact with two pieces, the one deformable being the slave and the other being the master. I'm always getting the warning "The slave surface nodes have much larger masses than the nodes on the master surface. Significant contact noise may result." I tried to modify mass-scaling , but it didn't work. I don't know if that's the cause of an oscillating kinetic energy and internal energy. I'm thinking of changing the master and slave surface, but it doesn't make sense with the tutorial of ABAQUS. I would very much like an insight...

Thanks in advance,

JuKnip

I changed the surfaces master-slave, but it didn't change a thing. So, I really don't know how to decrease the noise or if it's the cause of the oscillation of the internal energy.

That sounds like a warning about the densities of the material properties not mass scaling. If you more clearly define the problem you are trying to solve we can help much more. Also, pictures or a model help greatly. I hope this helps.

Try use a pure master-slave surface contact definition (with "weight" parameter). I think by default it uses a hybrid, i.e., 50% of each surface.

Well, I'm modeling two pieces of the same material. The pieces are positioned so that one is inside of the other (There's a picture with one of the contacts highlighted). The actual problem is that when a uniform pressure is applied on the piece inside (like pushing it down), it slides to the base of the other.
I'm using pure master-slave contact with weight parameter by default. I have changed the mass-scaling and I'm using penalty for friction formulation.
And one question, is it normal for the internal energy to oscillate?
Thanks already for the replies =) (and sorry for the english)
