A105 and A105N Flanges 2

Do flanges class 600# and above require to be stamped A105N? Or would it be ok for just the MTR to state the flange is A105N?

Review ASTM A105, para 13. Product Marking. I believe the answer would be no; as long as the MTR combined with the heatnumber uniquely identifies (by means of the required marking, see para 13.3) the forging, it's OK.
Maybe someone with more expertise than me can confirm this?

These flanges can also be Annealed, Quenched and Tempered, Normalized and Tempered, as well as normalized. The marking must reflect the actual heat treatment used.

Para S2.4 states " In addition to the marking required by Section 13, this specification should be followed by the letter: A for Annealed, N for Normalized, NT for Normalized and Tempered, or QT for Quenched and Tempered as appropriate". With that being stated, would the Class 600# flanges stamped "A105" only and the MTR stating "A105N" would the flanges be rejectable?

Also, the terminology used answered your question.

"Should" means recommended but not mandatory. As opposed to "shall" which means it's compulsory.

Ripz and all, thanks for your help on this. Answer to my question is the flanges are good due to the fact that A105N is not mandatory to be stamped on the flange markings, just aslong as the MTR states "A105N" on class 600# and above flanges.

If I am conducting an inspection on a pressure vessel and the bill of material requires a flange to be SA105N,
the flange will need to be stamped SA105N and the MTR's will have this info also. Same with couplings. The A.I. will not accept.
