I was wondering which interpretation of length over-tolerance is correct for a 5/8" dia 35' tube. It doesn't really matter in that we would prefer less trim length and I would like to know which interpretation is correct.
Per Table 4 ASTM A1016
Welded Tube <2" Cut Length over tolerance [+1/8" -0"] for 24'
Then with the adjustment for additional length - Above 24' 1/8" must be added for every 10ft or fraction thereof
Option 1
24' = 1/8"
10' = 1/8"
1 ft = 1ft/10ft = 0.1 * 1/8" = 0.0125"
so for 35ft tolerance = 0.125"+0.125"+0.0125"=0.263"
Option 2
24' = 1/8"
10' = 1/8"
1' = 1/8"
so for 35ft tolerance would be 3/8"
