I have a pressure transducer that provides a 0-10 VDC output. I want to convert that to an RS485 signal so that I can bring it into my PLC. I've looked at a converter from Omega (DIN-114), but I was hoping for something cheaper. Any suggestions??

Well, you can design your own but with PC board, I don't think you can save any money but with vectorboard it may be cheaper...

The item in question lists for $180. At $20/hr, that's 9 man-hours.

You could not possibly design, fabricate PCB, assemble, integrate, test, and calibrate any home-brew solution in that amount of time.

How many does he want and how much is the learning and satisfaction worth?

I have decided to go with an A/D converter supplied by Advantech (ADAM-4012). Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I would like to learn to make the mods myself, but right now time and money are the driving factor.
