Hi Guys,

first off, i whish all of you prosperity for '11!

Now, my 'issue',

We have a shaft-gear connection consisting of teeth, i.e. proptrusions on the shaft part and a equal number of recesses on the gear part. Both the teeth and the recesses are broached.

Now, I'm trying to figure out how to tolerance/GD&T this the best so as to adchieve the best contact between the two(for equal stress distrubution) and still keep the toolmakers life bearable.

Does any of you have experience with broaching tolerances for such gear designs? What can one reasonably aspect?

Of course I can tolerance one teeth/recess to 'always fit', but the difficultiy seems to me, to adchieve such a fit for all the teeth on the circumference as a whole. If I tolerance too loose then it probably won't have decent contact on all teeth.

Any insight would be highly appreciated!
