This is an 8" CMU fire wall that is left exposed after the demo of the end unit. It sits on a concrete basement wall below the first floor.

This wall is not laterally tied to the existing house, except for at the stair header. The existing house floor framing runs front to back. Roof truss also running front to back.

The roof of the remaining house is approximately 2ft lower than the top of the 8" block fire wall. So the plan is to remove the top 2ft of fire wall. They are most likely going to re-roof the remaining house. So I figure I could provide a detail where the top of the block wall is laterally braced by the roof diaphragm.

Do we think its necessary to tie the second floor to the block wall with tie rods. I could see squeezing in (2) ties at the rear of the house, just beyond where the stair header frames in.

Ben29 what does the analysis say? Can the CMU with existing rebar/grout span from the base up to the roof?

Wind and seismic both can cause out of plane loading that should be considered.

what is the purpose of the CMU wall now? why not just completely remove it and put a decent end wall on the remaining house?

I would be banging in some screened epoxy anchors into the new floor diaphragm.

@Ben29 but your involved and you need to make sure that they also do the safe thing... Right?

Seriously? I think that even with the trim-back on the roof profile, you're still left with the side profiles, which look to stick out on the front and is recessed on the back.
