I've got a 4MW 11kV gen set that has tripped several times on rate of change of frequency relay or ROCOF.
Early thoughts were that the process acting as the prime mover (turbo and process gas) had issues but after initial investigation this appears not to be the case. I could also get the ROCOF trip if the national grid had a blip. I always believed the grid to be rock steady but after the issue last week where the 50Hz frequency dropped I'm wondering now whether the grid wobbles more than I believed it did.
I'm looking to measure and record the 50Hz frequency both incoming to the plant and from the 110V VTs from the gen set. I'm thinking sample rate about 10ms to avoid aliasing and storage for about a week. If it hasn't tripped I can simply reset everything.
I'm trying to hire such a piece of kit but I keep drawing blanks.
UK hire companies - any ideas?

I have used a Omicron Daneo 400 for similar troubleshooting, wide range of capability,
Not sure who in UK rents, I know Electro-Rents has UK offices.

An Omicron CMC256 Plus can also be used as a recorder/datalogger and may be more available for rental

hope that helps, MikeL.

Hi

Many thanks for the information. The 400 seems to fit the bill
