The shoreline pump is a large pump that sends crude from an offshore platform to a processing facility on land. It consists of a Gas engine driver Cat G399, a Western 8110MS speed increaser gearbox and a 5 stage IR pump. Very high vibration (0.78 ips peak), was detected in the horizontal readings for all four bearings of the gearbox. A very prominent increasing trend over the last year was seen on all four bearings' horizontal readings. The spectrum for the low speed (input) shaft reveal 4x at 0.68 ips, 4.5X at 0.21 ips, 5x at .07 and 5.5x at .09 ips. The input gear has 65 teeth. the output gear has 24 teeth. the engine to gearobx coupling is mechanical bellows type air operated. the pump coupling is metal with shims. Increased vibration was detected on the engine and pump but not as severe as the gearbox. the gearbox oil pump is located on the hs shaft and is spline driven. Can anyone shed some light on the source of the 4X spike.
