Hi,
Can a 460 vac 50hz motor run safely on a 460vac 60 hz supply.

Many thanks

There's an FAQ:
faq237-1224
As far as safety is concerned, you can only decide on that.

The 3 hp motor and 9 m3/h pump (Submersible) is going to be lowered over the side of an oil rig 20 meters into the water so as we can get clean cool water to cool our refrigerant in our air conditioning system through a one inch hose. So if the water is getting pumped faster thats not a bad thing.
As for the second point, I am not sure

Where did you find a 460V 50Hz motor?

I told the supplyier I needed a 460vac 60hz motor, he is trying to sell me what he has which I am beginning to think is going to be a 415 volt 50 hz. I think I need to check this out before I pay any money.

Thanks guys

Terry

A 380V 50Hz motor would be fine at 460V 60Hz, as long as the speed difference is OK with you.

So I presume 415 or 440 would be okas well.

Thanks

The supplyier says the name plate says it can be operated on 3 different volts, 380,400 and 415 at 50hz.
Is it ok to supply this motor with 460 vac at 60 hz.

Many thanks

Terry

If your supply voltage is 460V 60Hz, then the motor should be rated 383V 50Hz.

If your supply voltage is actually 480V 60Hz then the motor should be rated 400V 50Hz.

Your system voltage is likely more than 460V and a higher system voltage would fall right in the middle of the voltage rating for that motor.

FYI, you can probably get 20% more power than the 50Hz rated power out of the motor too.

Many thanks to everybody for their advice
