Please can someone help. I am having trouble with a pipe splitting. The pipe is pushed onto a barb fitting and sometimes will split. I need to check if the barb diameter is too big.

I am using 44P pipe (1/4"), the ID is 4.318mm and OD is 6.35mm. The pipe is splitting at the point that it runs over the barb. The barb diameter is 4.76 - 4.80mm. The split in the pipe propagates along the pipe and originates on the ID, leading me to assume that it is a factor of the hoop stress.

Is anyone able to provide the calculation necessary to work out when the pipe will fail? I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

I have tried this and they are unwilling to help/

Talk to an alternate pipe manufacturer. Buy from the one who is most helpful.
