I'm wanting to make some long lengths of large diameter pipe around 450mm dia with a 28mm wall. I only have a small extruder and the die making company says it's not possible. My extruder has a motor of 10hp and I'm not sure of the output capacity, but am assuming close to 100kg/hr. I'm wondering the reason that it's "not possible" I don't care if it is really slow.

My calculations show that it should be able to make at a rate of around 2m/hr. Is it detrimental to have the plastic move through the die too slow and keep it at high temperature for so long? Is there not enough back pressure? I'm fairly inexperienced with extruding and am keen to learn a lot more.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You can make the pipe as a 3D printer would. Extrude a bead as you rotate the pipe.
