I am solving a compression test (3D RVE model). My model is the cylinder enclosed inside a cube. I am solving with periodic boundary conditions. When the displacement is applied from the top (Y), the problem occurs at the contact region and the job aborts. I applied a displacement value of 0.1 mm for the 1 mm model considering 10% strain. Later, I tried with 0.05 mm displacement. But no help.

It works properly if I do the compression along the sideways (X or Z). Only the compression in the Y-direction creates a problem. Especially the contact region, I think. I modelled the cube and cylinder as a single part and kept the internal boundaries to assign different properties. As the model was not solved, I later modelled the cube and cylinder as different parts and assembled them. But no help.

Need suggestions to tackle this?

Thanks
Sri

What is the error message ? Did you try connecting the parts via tie constraint ?
