On a weld procedure test to B31.3 (or VIII-1), are weld metal impacts still required when welding say, ferritic SS using 309? Obviously HAZ testing is still required.

I should add that the MDMT is fairly high, above the point where impacts are mandatory for austenitic SS weld metal.
