I am curious in understanding what makes 302 Stainless Steel bleach compatible. I have made experiments with small springs made from 302 SS that have not corroded.
Is the 302 steel resistant to oxidation from hypochlorite (OCl-) or is it resistant to the hydroxide (OH-)? How is 302 steel different from "normal" stainless steel that you might buy in other goods? What is the typical upcharge to manufacture a part from stainless steel to 302 stainless steel? Are there any other grades or processes that make steel compatible with bleach?
