Greetings,

Questions for the Thyristor pros...

Is it possible to use a standard 4 quadrant TRIAC in place of a 3quad/snubberless. a 4Q TRIAC able to trigger in Q3+ is due to an overlap in the gate, usually requiring a snubber circuit, which usually consists of a resistor & capacitor.

Most of the 3Q/snubberless/high commutating (any other names I missed here), do not require the snubber circuit. In general, can a 4Q TRIAC be used where there is no snubber circuit (replacing a 3Q TRIAC).

What would be the disadvantages/benefits if this can be done.

Thanks for your help.
Bob
