Hi All,

In draft 2D model view, is there a way to see the 2D reference point 0,0 without switching the grid on.

The drawing grid origin is set to the drawing sheet (0,0) coordinate.

The 2D grid options have taken a nose dive since ST

Traditional Draft ST2 MP7

Cheers

Try placing a point in the 2d model view then RMB on the point and set the XY co-ordinates to 0,0
Similarly you could place a line and set the start point co-ordinates to 0,0

Thanks Beachcomber,

Got that routine. The problem I have is that I have to open dxf files. Then go through the procedure of switching the grid on find 0,0 then move the part to 0,0 I then save back to dxf and send to a fabricator.

Your method works fine, but the coordinates reset back to the original poistion when saved.

Used to be a lot easier in V20, but for some reason the grid options in tradional draft ST2 have declined.

Cheers

Coordinates of what reset back to original position when saved ?

Ok,

When a DXF is opened with 2D draft the object is in space or where the reference/coordinate point 0,0 was in the creating software.

The Reposition Origin command redefines the grid origin at a any location I specify.

The Zero Origin command automatically resets the origin in 2D Draft, the drawing grid origin is reset to the drawing sheet (0,0) coordinate.

When I save the Dxf after using these commands the dxf resets it origin back to the creating origin.

I have to move the object to 0,0 coordinates, but to do that I have to switch on the grid etc etc and the move the object then save. Quite cumbersome when you have several hundred to do.

I was wondering If I could show the drawing sheet (0,0) coordinates with switching on the grid.

Correction: Should read

I see now.
The reposition origin is purely for the grid, not for the actual file 0,0.
Why not set up a draft template file with the grid already on and whatever settings you need, then use this when converting. At least that would reduce the number of steps required.

Hi beachcomber,

That was one option I thought of and works quite well, thanks.

The only drawback with the above option is that you have to set a new seacad.ini file. Not so bad, but if you work with Autocad files a lot, this too becomes a PITA remembering :)

Although you got me thinking...........I found this workaround

I set up my standard seacad.ini, (the one I use every day (almost)) with the grid pattern below. The grid options allow you to specify very large grids. I set this one as

Check: show grid
Check: as points
Set: angle 0.0 deg
Set: Major spacing’s 10000mm
Set: Minor spacing’s 1

Bingo.....
No grid shows as the flat patterns I use are all less than 5000mm
The red 0,0 coordinate lines show (easy to move to)
Because the grid pattern is so large it doesn't show on any sheets.

Thanks Beach :)

Nice one Karmoh.
Often just by discussing the problem you find your own solution.
