How do I create a drawing which is just a 2d drawing, i.e. like in mdt when you could save as 2d.

so i can send copy print etc without the delay of model construction.

Use another program like AutoCAD.

Not making 3D models in SolidWorks, and only using the 2D functionality is like buying an nice rifle for hunting, only to use it as a club.

If you have SW05, you could use the DWGeditor, it is an AutoCAD clone (old IntelliCAD), and could work in a pinch.

Sorry you miss understand me, I create solid models, do assemblies & the drawing. I just would like to save the drawing as a 2d?

So I could rapidly open it.

Check out Lightweight drawings & Draft quality in the Help files.

You could also do a Save as to DWG, or DXF, but you will of course lose the associativity.

Ooops ... nearly forgot ... you can also do a Save as > Detached drawing (*.slddrw)

Check out the dimensions, detached drawings section in the Help files.

Have all parts load as lightweight. I don't know why you want to try to save as 2D.

detached is the answer, thanks

Sorry for misunderstanding your question. You can also just open the drawings as View Only, and there is also PDF creation.
