2D Center Line will not accept a driven dimension...

Hi,

This should be simple, but I cannot get it to work how I need it to.

If you draw two parallel lines then use the Center Line button set to 'by 2 lines' it places a center line inbetween them both... which is great, apart from I cannot apply a driven dimension to that line. Is there a way of doing this?

Could be because it's position is already driven - by the fact that it's the mid-line of the other 2 lines.
You can dimension from the centreline to line other than the ones from which it was created. Make sure you have 'maintain relationships' turned on.

Short answer is No. The centerline is an annotation not actual geometry. It cannot be dimensioned to control it's position. You would need to create an actual line and apply the centerline line style to it. Use constraints to lock it between your 2 lines.

Hi,

I think you did mean a '.. driving dimension ..'
As already said by ksudavid and beachcomber:

You can use the centerline to dimension to/from but that never
will become a driving dimension ...
You might also have noticed that a centerline has two handles
on each side and there is no midpoint. It's a special type
of line with quite a different behaviour.
