Hey,

When I do Mates, after selecting two component faces or edges or whatever, and then click the mate button (paperclip), the program decides the best mate etc... but for some reason the actual two mates disappear from the box at the top. If you click the Tick, the mate is still saved however. Its just strange, as the mates disappear from the box at the top, so its annoying to change one of them to something else if its incorrect.
There are a few more issues around mates I have found also.

Has anyone else experienced this, or is mine just being weird?

Cheers

So you are NOT clicking the pop-up dialogue box before the selections disappear?

All I am doing is selecting two faces, then clicking the paperclip, and the mates sidebar comes up - but there are no mates in the top selection box. The two components have moved to their new location though, and if you click the Tick on either that little popup box, or the tick at the top of the sidebar, the mate is accepted. But the two selected mate components are not in the mate selection box.

BUT, if I open the mate box first, then click the two components, they are present in the selection box.

Is that weird?

Same if I am doing a parallel mate. If I select the two components and then click the paperclip, it tried to make them coincident by default, and pops up an overdefining error normally. I then click parallel instead, the overdefining error goes away, and the two components are still present in the top selection box. but when I click the tick, the sidebar disappears and the mate has not been accepted.
If I do the paperclip first however, and then click parallel and then click the two components, all is fine.

totally bizzare.

Could be a bug in SW or could be a conflict with your mixed system (SWx32 on XPx64) or even the 6600GT card you're using.
Or have you changed your system?

Are you still getting the runtime error you mentioned in thread559-176656?
Did you do any of the suggestions from same?

[cheers]

No I am not getting those runtime errors anymore. It seemed to only do them when I did the featureworks stuff. Ended up giving up with that, as I could see solutions to the problem that solidworks just couldnt see - so I recreated everything.
I still have the same system yes.
It wasnt doing with with SP1.0 however.
I did try the things suggested on that other post, but it didnt solve the problem. So im putting it down to XP64 using 32bit solidworks... its a major thing that could cause it.

Since you are selecting your models first before picking the mate button, you might want to use macros for this. I use them daily, but I don't remember where I got them from. For example, pick 2 faces then hit the coincident macro button, and you do not have the mate pop up box or anything to dismiss.

Some asembly mate macros are found on Matt Lombard's site in the macro library.

Were you thinking of this one from handleman
Plane/Origin Selection Macro thread559-175155

I'm using 2007 2.2 and all mates are OK on my system. I assume you mean the actual text in the mate selection box?

Correct. Mates work fine generally, the text is just missing when I do selection first them click mates.
Must just be my weird config of hardware and OS.
