2" OD Buttweld Pipe 2

Is there standard dimensions for a 2" OD Buttweld Pipe? For example: bend radius, wall thickness, tolerances, etc?

I ask because ASME 16.9 does not specify a 2" OD. It does however specify dimensions for a NPS of 2, but this is 2.38" OD. I was wondering if maybe ASTM has a standard set for sizes that fall outside of the ASME NPS standards. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated! And I am happy to provide more information if needed.

Cylindrical conduits specified by the OD are called tube or tubing, not pipe.

You can find 2" OD steel tube sold as hydraulic tubing or as mechanical tubing.

Good point Mike!

Yes I am looking for dimension standards for 2" OD buttweld tubing or fittings (elbows, tees, etc). ASTM A269 specifies permissible variation for OD and wall thickness, but I was hoping to find something that would show center to face dimension, bend radius, etc. Again ASME 16.9 shows this but not for 2" OD.

Almost nobody buttwelds tubing to preformed elbows.
They bend the tube, and often the desired radius is "as small as possible".
The achievable radius depends most strongly on whatever bend tooling you can get, so the 'standards' are the bend tooling manufacturer's catalogs, not some pile of paper from ASTM.

The exception is so-called 'sanitary' tube, used in the dairy and pharmaceutical industries, for which ells and tees are available, usually press-formed, seam welded and polished, universally stainless steel in several alloys and degrees of polish. If there are dimensional standards for fittings, they are not widely followed; the choice seems to be with/without tangents, and whatever someone is tooled up to make.

How close do you want to get to 2" OD - 1 1/2" pipe has an OD of 1.9"?? Only 5% smaller than 2" OD....

Mike is correct in terms of tubing, but not pipe.

Are you sure what you are asking for? You mention ASME B16.9 for buttweld fittings. In that document and any API document, 2-inch buttweld fittings and pipe have a 2-3/8 inch OD. Buttwelding anything smaller than that becomes a pretty major problem and requires some mad skills. Typically I see 1-inch and 1.5 inch socket welded or threaded for that reason. I've specified buttwelding 1-inch a couple of times and the results were poor on both jobs and I pulled them out and replaced with 2-inch (nominal, NPS 2, DN 50).

You are unlikely to find buttweld fittings for tubing which is generally joined with specialized fittings. 2-inch OD tubing is usually very thin walled and not suitable for buttwelding for pressure containment.

As MikeHalloran pointed out - If you want OD dimensioned tubular products, look for tube or tubing - not pipe.

Search the internet for a company called Felker Brothers (or maybe Felker Piping Products). Don't remember the size range available, but I've gotten tube size elbows, tees, reducers from them in the past.

I'm not aware of a B16.9 equivalent for tube sized fittings. MSS may have something. If I find anything, I'll reply.

As Mike also mentioned (guess that means two stars), look at products from Sanitary fittings manufacturers (TriClover is one of many)

If you require thin wall stainless tube fittings for butt welding, they are readily available from race car exhaust system component suppliers. You can get mandrel tube bends, hydroformed tees, 4-1 collectors, etc.

High performance rigid tube fluid systems are quite often butt welded in place using specialized TIG welding equipment. This approach provides very high reliability.
