I am new to hyperwork and trying to use hyperbeam to study the optimized shape of a I-beam. I have created the beam using hyperbeam but don't know how to associate the dimensions/parameters of the I-beam to my design variables. Any help is appreciated.

It is a long time since I've used Optistruct. Given that, at least back then that's not really how it used to work. What it used to do was to reduce the density and stiffness of individual elements WITHIN the current geometry. That is the current surfaces define the limiting envelope which the final design will occupy. I suggest you do the tutorials, they are very good.

Hi Greg, thank you for your reply. I think you are talking about the response setup. I will have to create the design variable first. Then, I can define the response I want to minimize to be the mass or compliance matrix and the constriant factor is stress.
