1977 NDS value

Does anyone have a 1977 NDS handy where they can tell me the design values for southern pine (E, Fb, and Fv)?

FSS .. do you mind telling me why you need such info? Wouldnt it be more conservative to just use latest nds value?

NO. Older trees have different values. The difference between first and second growth, let alone third, is a lot.

If you check the 1977 UBC, Table 25-A-1, you will find your values. As they are member size and type dependent, it is too variable to post here. I will try to scan the table for you and post later.

Then if you are confident about it.. why not just look it up as select structural from latest nds value?

Thanks for the info Mike. I am trying to verify/recreate load tables taken from an old design guide handed to me. I don't trust anything till I check the numbers myself!

Contact the Southern Forest Products Association for design values. I will check to see if I have a older SFPA grading book.

You could also look in an earlier edition of the AITC TCM.

The difference in design values has more to do with changes in grade rules and the manner in which values are assigned then on whether or not the wood was first growth.

The is a difference in the fact in first growth you would get more material that would grade as dense grain. The design values are higher for dense selected structural than for select structural.
