1953 Steel Joist

I am in the process of looking at an existing building. The plans that I have were prepared around 1953. The roof joist designations used are 1806 & 2007. The state that they are 18" and 20" deep. Does anyone know where I would be able to find information about these joists (load capacities, moment capacity, shear capacity, etc.) The SJI manual does not have anything with designations such as this (I am looking at their 50 year digest not the newer 75 year).

Could be a MaComber designation.

Macomber had many, many different types and designations of joists. SlideRule does have tables for only a couple different types. Another place to check is with SJI.

I think around the time frame (1953 or so) L series joists were widely used.

The problem I am having is the way it was designated on the plans. Am I to assume what is called out as "1806" is an 18L06 as called out on the schedules?

That is where I am having the problem.

Can you get a joist tag? This would help identify it.

The best bet is to go to the project site and take some measurements and compare.
